A Beautifully Unique Journey

Philippians 1:6 “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

No two snowflakes are the same. Each one is unique with their own structure and crystal pattern. Such intricate detail in such a tiny fleeting droplet of ice. As I looked back at this picture taken during the historic freeze of February 2021, I began to wonder about these beautiful works of art. In my quest for answers, I learned that a snowflake's pattern is the result of its journey that it takes from cloud to ground. Each snowflake begins as a single frozen ice droplet and as the droplet falls passing through layers of clouds and air with differing temperature and moisture conditions, water droplets continue to attach themselves to the ice droplet forming a unique crystalline pattern never duplicated because no two droplets have the exact same journey.

Just like a snowflake, we each are on our own journey that begins the moment we decide to walk with God. A spiritual journey that is designed to draw us closer to Him and help us become more like Christ. Every dark cloud we pass through, every time we feel the pressure of life closing around us, every season of drought or abundance, God is using it. He has a plan and a purpose. Each one adds another detail in the beautiful design of His great plan for us. God knows exactly what we need to bring each of us to that place of spiritual maturity.

Philippians 1:6 reminds us that “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” We may not always understand or be able to see what He is doing because human nature is to look at what is going on around us, instead of looking for what God is doing inside us. Paul reminds us in this verse that the work God is doing is good; it is internal; it is ongoing; it is spiritual and it will be completed. God doesn’t place us on this spiritual journey only to forget about us and leave us unfinished. He is dedicated to our unique and beautiful journey with Him. Though we may experience similar trials, pains and hardships, our journey remains unique as God uses each one in a very personal way, adding just the right detail to your journey and preparing you for what He will do next.

As we travel our journey, it is easy to look around and compare. If we aren’t careful we’ll spend more time focusing on the things that others are going through, celebrating their accomplishments and weeping in their sorrows that we miss what God is trying to show us in our own present circumstance. We might be tempted to compare our journey to others, thinking they are so much further along in their spiritual walk and wonder if we’ll ever be where they are. We must remember that each snowflake falls at its own pace and we must walk our journey at the pace God has set for us. If we rush progress or lazily lag behind, we might miss a beautiful detail in our uniquely designed journey.

The Focal Point: When I look at these snowflakes, I am reminded to focus on the unique journey God is leading me through to become more like Christ.
