Keep Knocking

Luke 11:9-10 And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Mommy, can I have?” What parent hasn’t been asked that question at least a dozen times in their life, let alone in one shopping trip? Children are quick to let us know what they want and would like to have. They make lists for their birthday and Christmas and their requests are usually very specific. They don’t just want a doll, they want one that will “eat and cry and open their eyes.'' Though God is not in the business of granting our wishes or giving us everything we think we need or want, He does want us to ask. He wants us like that child to be specific and not fear telling Him what we want. He wants us to come to Him with our requests and He wants us to keep asking until we hear an answer. Unlike the child who wears the parent down with the twentieth “Can I, can I, please?” God is not worn down with our persistence. He knows how and when He will answer each prayer before we even ask it, but He wants us to keep on asking, seeking, and knocking for our own benefit. He wants us to realize our need for Him. He wants to build our faith and work in our hearts during the waiting. Have you been tempted to quit praying for something? Keep asking. Have you been discouraged because it just looks like God isn’t answering? Ask again. Or maybe like me, you’ve been hesitant to ask for something in the first place? Just Ask.
Matthew 11:7 tells us “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” God will always answer for the good of His children, so keep asking, keep seeking to hear His answer, and keep knocking until He opens the door.
The Focal Point: When I see this old door, I am reminded that all I need to do is to keep knocking !
